As discussed in class, your project will involve designing a registration system for SFU students. You will use goSFU as a point of comparison. You may have noticed that goSFU was taken offline just before our class on Thursday, and will not be back up until the 20th. I have no idea what the new site will look like, but I am confident that you and your team will still be able to find room for improvement.
The project will focus on the following core activities:
Note that the specific features mentioned above (such as checking prerequisites) are not exhaustive. If during the design process you discover the need for some other feature(s), you are free to add them. However, you don't want to add too much as it will mean more work for the team later on.
You will evaluate the usability of at least the "adding a class" task. You may also evaluate other tasks if you wish, depending on how long the adding a class task takes and how long you want each session to be (aim for 30-60 minutes total). The more tasks you evaluate, the more usability data you will have to work with for your evaluation.
Arrange at least one session for each member of your team, and no more than two sessions per member. Have a complete set of prototyping materials available for the task. You may find that some of the sessions cannot be used in the final project (for example, the participant fails to show up). You should also reserve the first session as a trial run to work out any kinks in your protocol. Your final project should have data from at least four participants after these losses are taken into account.
Note that since only one task will be evaluated, you do not have to wait until part 2 of the project is handed in to proceed. You will need only the main screen and the prototype for this task.
You will require signed copies of this consent form for each student that participates.
Results will be presented by the team to the entire class. You will have 20 minutes to present (strictly enforced), and a few minutes for questions. During the presentation, you should present your design for the task, data and observations collected from your participants, and describe how you would redesign the task as a result.
Present the instructor with a printed copy of your slides before presenting. Be sure that the printed copy includes a cover page with your team name, names of the team members, and their student numbers, and signed consent forms for everyone who participated in a session. As before, you will receive a zero if a consent form is missing.
You will also have to fill out a group evaluation form.
